Have you ever been offended by a close friend or loved one?
Like a shotgun, the closer you are the more devastating the wound.
God knows the difficulty in forgiving wounds from those He loves the most dearly. Jesus actually prayed for his executioners and deserted friends to be forgiven, while He hung on the cross!
Although it is difficult for us to do, He releases a special blessing to us when we follow His example. He blesses us when we share His grace and forgiveness when those close to us have wounded us.
Job was a man who lost everything. Rather Than comfort him his friends turned against him. In a time when he needed support, he they brought accusations.
God sent these close friends back to Job to ask for his prayer so they could receive forgiveness. Rather than allow bitterness to take root and turn them away, Job decided to pray for them that they could be restored.
"And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job, when he had prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. (Job 42:5, 10 ESV)"
