EPIKOS CHURCH - REAL PEOPLE. REAL STORIES. AMAZING GOD.
Have you ever given something to your kids, like a bag of candy, and then asked for a piece? It's amazing how quickly they can forget who gave it to them! Do you really want to bargain with your kids for a piece of the candy you just gave them? I've even had them try to bribe me by offering me a piece of what I just gave them. Sometimes kids just don't see the full perspective. Actually, in our relationship with God, we don't always grasp it either.
Bargaining Without Leverage
Ever find yourself trying to bargain with God by reminding him of all you've done "for Him"? Ever promise to give your time or money to serve others if "He'll just do X"? It may seem like a great offer but the reality is we're only bribing God with blessings He gave us to begin with. Bargaining without leverage means we've lost our perspective and thankfulness. Both of which are a real recipe for discouragement.
Pastoral Advice on Discouragement
Love and serve God because of who He is and because of what He's done. If we do this we can always trust that He will work things out for our good, no bargaining needed. God sees you and knows what you need, he even knows where to find you right here in Bend, Oregon.
